Love from a distance

Are you loving someone from a distance? Is your lover living in another country that keeps you from seeing them on a daily basis. This is a real occurrence in the lives of many. You find yourself on a trip abroad to enjoy a nice vacation in Jamaica, Bahamas or Cancun. Wherever the destination may be, it can involve meeting different people. Say this has occurred and you met someone you feel is mr. or miss right. Now what are you going to do about? This happens often on a simple trip to the islands. The ocean breeze blowing the sea air mixed with exotic scents. You feel like a different person in a tropical paradise. This feeling about your new paradise makes you want to pack everything and move to this hideaway you have found. Is this crazy,.. you say to yourself or is this really happening. I find that there are a lot of different reasons why people fall in love when they are visiting the islands. I will explore more aspects of love from foreign and loving a foreign man or woman. It is a journey that takes patience, diligence and a understanding of how to love from a distance.

Buju We Love You

Buju is locked up in a miami jail. This has come as a shock to most of us. To know that he is not free brings sadness to the community who love Buju so much. We pray he is released and back with us soon.

With Christmas coming soon, it's time for some sorrel drinks. Sorrel is a plant that has beautiful red buds. When they are dried, you can make them into a fruitful drink. It has a delicious taste that you will love. There are so many recipes for the sorrel drinks. Some people have their own special recipes and they like to keep them secret. The recipe usually includes Rum, ginger, sugar and of course Sorrel. Here is a video of the process. Hope you try it for the Christmas holiday.

Wray and Nephew

There was a fire at the Wray and Nephew Rum plant. When I heard the news I thought the plant had burned down and there would be no rum for christmas. There is no need to worry though. The fire was in a warehouse that contained barrels. There will be RUM for Christmas after all. Whew! Rum is important in jamaica, because it is used for so many purposes. I will list some for you. Just to name a few. Here is a video of the fire at the plant.

Shippin Barrels

This has been on my mind for a weeks now. I want to send down a barrel with some things in it. I think that my barrel may not get there before xmas, because I haven't started to pack it yet. If you want to pack a lot of things to send to jamaica. Then this is a way to send things down at a cheaper price. I went to my local West Indian store(or Caribbean store). You can find them there and most of the time, they will cost around $30. The price to send.. can be like $75 bucks. The store that Im dealing wit said, that they will charge for someone to pick it up at my house. They said $40 to pick up. Well I'm not giving them my $40 dollars. Come on Mon!

I will get the barrel and pack it, so I know how much stuff I can put in it. I will unpack it and take it to the store. I just pack all the stuff I'm going to ship in my car trunk. When I get to the store I pack the barrel and lock it up. Why pay them more then necessary. But it's up to you. How you want to do it. That is just how I plan to do it. It's been some time since I have sent one down. I'm planning to spend some time there, and I want to make sure I have my essentials while Im there. Not that you can't get things in ja. But they might run you a bag a money. You get me. Anyway. I will post some more links on sites for shopping ect. Get your barrel now and check see how long they take to send it down for you.

Coconut Drops Recipe

I found the recipe! I hope you try them. They are a delightful sweet snack that has ginger and coconut in it. Yummy!

COCONUT DROPS (cut cake)

1 Dry Coconut

1 lb. Brown Sugar

1 tbsp Grated Ginger

¼ tsp Salt

3 cups Water

1 tsp. Vanilla Flavoring

Method:

Remove coconut flesh from the shell using a knife. Cut up coconut into ¼” pieces, please don’t measure the pieces when you do this, just estimate as close as possible.

Rinse in cold water to remove the small leftover shell pieces. Bring water to boil in a saucepan, and then add all ingredients. Allow to boil for about 40 minutes on high.

Stir the pot occasionally with a wooden spoon to let the sugar keep from binding too fast. When the brew starts to develop some consistency, remove by spoonfuls and place on a greased surface.

Wait until the drops are cool, in about 20 minutes, then serve as a snack.

I love Poetry

I really do love Poetry. I love how the words come from deep thoughts you have. I love the connection that I feel when I hear spoken word. My mind gravitates to unknown places. I love the tempo of rhyming or simplistic flow as the words come together with timing. Some people don't understand the poet. But the audience that does knows the feeling they get when they hear good free flowing poems. I love poetry. It's what I love to do, when I feel like it. I will write some here. You may like or not.

Jerk Turkey

Thanksgiving is coming up in a few days.. And everyone is getting ready to cook their Turkey's and pull out the Old recipes. I found a recipe for Jerk Turkey and thought I would post it here. Now, remember that jerk seasoning is spicy and if you like spicy foods then this would be great for you to try.

Preparation Time: 30 - 45 minutesCooking/Baking Time: 3 1/2-4 hours Serves/Yields: 6-8

INGREDIENTS 12 lbs. turkey, remove giblets 3 Tbsps. jerk seasoning
1/2 cup soya sauce 2 Tbsps. lemon juice 1 Tbsp. olive oil 2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/4 cup chopped parsley 1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup chopped onions, eskallion & thyme or as needed.

METHOD: Wash Turkey with some lemon/lime. This will remove the raw taste or smell.
Pat dry turkey inside out. Combine and add the jerk seasoning, soya sauce, garlic, parsley, salt, onions, eskallion & thyme to rub over turkey inside and out, thoroughly. Stuff turkey with your choice of stuffings. Mix the lemon juice with the olive oil and brush over the turkey. Place the turkey in a baking dish and cover with aluminium foil. Bake for 30 minutes then, reduce the temperature to 325°F /160°C and bake for a further 3 1/2 hours. Remove the aluminium foil, about 30 minutes before total cooking time. Turkey is ready when golden brown. Good Luck and Enjoy!

The Jamaica I Love

I love jamaica, with its beautiful beaches an magnificient countryside. It's a place I call home when I can get away. I miss the days when I would sit on the veranda and watch as neighbors pass on their daily excursions. Those days are gone and the life I had with that mate. Life changes and gives us so many opportunities. Things seem to go at a slower pace in Jamaica. I love listening to the sounds that surround you and can give you such inner peace. While you sit back and read a book or enjoy your favorite refreshment. If you find you need a break from things and enjoy being in the native Jamaica. It is a experience you will never want to forget.
