Current Currency Rate (MONEY)

The current currency rate for US to Jamaican dollars is 1.00US = 83.19JMD.

Foreign Currency Converter - via Western Union

The current dollar does not let you buy much. The 83.00 Jamaica dollars does not go far. What can you buy with 83.00 jamaican dollars. Not much, because everything cost. You may be able to buy a pack of cookies or some sweeties.

Ten U.S. dollars will equal to 831.94. How can you feed a family of 3 or 4 on ten dollars a day. Let's find out what we can buy, by looking at the prices of the supermarket (SuperPlus).

A loaf of bread will cost you over 2 or 3 dollars.
Some people prefer to buy flour. As they can make dumplings, which is like eating a bread with the meal. Rice is another staple that is used daily with meals.

Flour at 4.85lb will cost you $2.99
Rice at 2.2lbs will cost you $1.40 a bag 11lbs will cost $4.45

Chicken can range from $8.00- $11.00 for a whole chicken. Outside the supermarket can also be expensive.

Things like chicken feet can be $.95 for 500g. This is not alot but can be more if you add more pks. Turkey necks can be cheaper with a price of $.78 for 500g a pk

SuperPlus Corned beef can be $1.80 for 12oz. People do prefer the Grace Foods brands.

This is to give you a idea of how the prices are in Jamaica and how you may have to shop around for things. Checking prices will save you money.
Even toilet paper is $5.95 at SuperPlus. I can buy mine for $2.00 here. So if you are staying for awhile you may want to pack some in your luggage. If sending a barrel, you might want to send a whole lot of this. I think that the toilet paper is overpriced at SuperPlus.

Here is link to SuperPlus and you can look at prices yourself. You can also order online for someone. You can order online for yourself and go pick it up when you arrive. Either way some of the prices are better then the prices at the market. Although you are supposed to be able to haggle or bargain with the person selling stuff. Just remember they are out to make money and if your foreign, then they may take advantage.

Good idea to take someone who is Jamaican and knows how to deal. Also, a friend who is not going to rip you off! SUPERPLUS

Happy Shopping!

Tropical Storm Nicole causes flooding in Jamaica

There have been at least 16 known tropical storms in the Atlantic. As these storms pass through. They can cause tremendous damage and flooding to the islands. The coastal areas are also hit by these storms.

There have been reports of at least a few deaths, by areas hit by these storms. Nicole has been no exception, as it passes over Jamaica. The flooding has been spread across the island. Trying to safe and dry has been a chore for many, islandwide.

We pray that there is no more deaths due to the floods. And that soon the hurricane season will be over. The island will be able to rest from the upheaval of things. God Bless Jamaica at this time.

Can your eyes see danger!

I was reading a blog about the opportunist that are awaiting foreigners in some countries. How can you tell that someone is out to get what they want from you? This is not easy to see, because your eyes may be glazed over from the bright light you are seeing. It may be the new encounter that has taken your interest and you forget all about the danger. Some say that no one can take what you don't give them. Is this true? People can take from you when you don't expect this to happen.

This can happen in any relationship, whether it be a friendship or a more intimate relationship. So why say that, people can only take what you give them. If you have a frienship with someone. You are not looking for that friend to take advantage of your kindness and trust. You are looking for your friend to understand you and treat you with the same regard, as you do that person. This is also true in a relationship. You are giving them your trust.

When you trust someone you are definitely not looking for someone the break that trust, by doing something deceitful. Should we go into to a friendship or relationship thinking that it will probably go downhill at some point. Wouldn't this be a very cynical outlook on life. There are certainly things you can look at to see if you really want to have a relationship with a person.

And those things I will discuss more in my next post on Can your eyes see danger! Take care and keep your eyes Open. (smile)
Can you see the danger Mystikal is singing about? LOL!
